Conversely, sales managers must also be keenly aware of what is working in the sales management process so that successes can be duplicated. Sales managers need to know which products are selling, what sales techniques work, and must solicit customer feedback. This information can then be shared with the entire the sales staff.

It is also important to include a recognition program for top performers in the sales management process. Employees who meet or exceed goals generally want to feel appreciated for a job well done. Crispety- I remember that concept in when I took a management class in college. I also know that many sales managers use sales management software.

Contact management software like Salesforce.com or Act.com offers detailed data that allows businesses to enhance all aspects of the sales cycle.

This software also offers detailed information regarding when a customer was contacted. This provides feedback to the sales manager which in turn he can question the employee on why a prospect has not been contacted more often.

This type of data makes it easy for the sales manager to do his job.

Cupcake15- I also wanted to add that the business management process goes through a lot of forecasting and profit analysis.

Many members of management manage their workforce by MBO, or management by objectives. Peter Drucker established the management by objectives concept.

He felt that there should be teams of salespeople and the team leader should be the one that is most knowledgeable. He said they should be measurable goals set forth for the group and maintaining accountability would allow the group to succeed.
